Enjoying the Autumn Season with Online and Offline Shopping Experiences

Autumn is here and along with cooler temperatures and twilight evenings comes the excitement of fall activities, like a tranquil walk through a tree shaded park, a trip to a rustic local farm to buy fresh produce, or a daylong shopping trip to your favorite retail destination to search for holiday gifting ideas.

Ah, but times have changed, and today, a tranquil walk through a tree shaded park is known as “forest bathing” and the fresh produce that you once went to a rustic local farm to buy can be delivered to your front door overnight or in a Subscription Box. Even the daylong shopping trip to your favorite retail destination can instead be spent online, webrooming to gather ideas for holiday gifting, digitally, instead of wandering store-to-store.

Today, you must navigate both online and offline shopping experiences and when you add in the seasonal factors of a limited quantity of merchandise and your limited time, you get a greater sense of excitement, urgency and FOMO (Fear of Missing Out.)

Pop Up Retail and Pop Up Hybrids, the Evolution of Disruptive Retail

Today at Gustie Creative, we are celebrating the second anniversary of Create Disruptive Retail with a very special read in the latest issue of HFN Digital called The Pop-Up Story Continues.

Beautifully written by Joanne Friedrick, The Pop-Up Story Continues is an insightful article covering today’s retail landscape, the impact of pop-up retailing, and how pop-up’s are evolving into hybrid models. I am pleased to be quoted in The Pop-Up Story Continues and, yes, I clearly believe that pop-up’s are the easiest point of entry to disruptive retailing and that everyone should have a disruptive retail presence. At Gustie Creative, I have been researching the evolution of pop-up retailing into hybrid models for the last eight years. These hybrid models are types of disruptive retail. When we launched Create Disruptive Retail on April 5, 2017, our intent was to provide an online design resource where brands, businesses, agencies, and non-profit organizations could learn about disruptive retail and find new solutions to move from online-to-offline retailing, increase their competitive advantage, open new marketing channels, innovate or embrace new technologies.

Now, two years later, to the day, Create Disruptive Retail is just that, and growing into a delightful ecosystem for disruptive retail.

Gustie Creative is on the Road to Tampa

Our friends at Shop! Association invited me to join their Business Leader Forum on March 8, 2018 in Tampa, Florida and give a presentation on the latest in design, retail and technology. The topic is “Tips and Trends for AI, Big Data, and Continuous Adaption in Offline Retail” and I’ll be presenting an interactive digital journey into emerging trends and technologies that are working for professionals in the retail industry today.

This interactive digital journey will include practical tactics to reinvent the in-store experience, creative strategies for online-to-offline retailing and new technologies that today’s entrepreneurs, retailers, and owners/operators are incorporating to delight and engage clients and customers.

This is a wonderful next step for our team at Gustie Creative to get out and share a bit of what we have learned with our design projects and research work on disruptive retail in our awesome digs at The Research Park at Florida Atlantic University.

Our recent day at SUP-X, a start up expo held in Fort Lauderdale, FL was fantastic! Lots of interest in Create Disruptive Retail. Many visitors to our booth have enjoyed experiences with disruptive retail,  such as shopping at a Pop Up Store, Food Truck or using an Interactive Kiosk, and they added personal details to our conversations on design, retail, online and offline shopping and technology.

In this “before” photo, I’m gearing up for the crowd with complimentary issues of Simply the Best magazine that include our articles on disruptive retail, designer cloth bags from ShopSmall  as Gustie Creative is a Neighborhood Champion each November and Google Daydream VR to view our design projects.

In the “after” photo below, everything is gone! I had a great time introducing people to Create Disruptive Retail by using the voice assistant on their smartphone. Try it…ask your voice assistant to go to “PS Pop Up Store” and you will land there 🙂

We even pulled out Cardboard because so many people wanted to try VR to view our disruptive retail design projects.
