Project Description
project brief
Karen Herman, our CEO and founder, was hired to provide full-service design on the renovation of the Squash Courts and Athletic Offices at the NYAC in New York City. This project was complete with her previous company, Creative Direct Solutions, Inc, which offered interior design, planning and project management services.
The New York Athletic Club was founded in New York City in 1868. The mission of the club is to support athletes at their highest level of competition and provide world class facilities. The Manhattan City House is the name of the New York City location.
combining history and a new look
Working with the project Architect, Karen developed a concept for the Squash Court area that featured a central Shop-in-Shop. This shop-in-shop was designed specifically for the squash pro, so he could provide niche products and services for squash players to purchase on the spot.
The curated selection of products and expert equipment repair were a convenience for the club’s athletes. Easy access to branded club merchandise increased sales. This design solution provided easy access to the necessary products and services that were otherwise difficult for club members to find nearby.
Full-service design of detail drawings and specification of fabrics, furnishings, and finishes tied the project together.
