A South Florida homeowner hired Gustie for a Living Room renovation. The plan was to transform an expansive open area to a warm and inviting space with a “clubby” look and feel. The Mediterranean architecture, which is very popular in South Florida, created a design challenge with a large, expansive Living Room that flowed into adjacent rooms and had a generic appearance that was uninviting.

We developed conceptual design based on a natural palette of vibrant colors to bring warmth and intimacy to our client’s Living Room. This room is a large open space with high ceilings and neutral colors. It needed to be transformed into a warm and inviting space with a “clubby” look and feel. We specified a subtle blend of color, texture, furnishings, lighting and materials to achieve this transformation.

Our interior design concept replaced the typical sofa, coffee table and side chair layout with a custom tournament size hand carved mahogany pool table. We specified a black felt for the pool table, to emphasize the color of the balls and lend a playful feeling to the room. Above the pool table, we specified a Tiffany Billiard light fixture, to add color and light in a way that reflected our client’s design esthetic. To soften the floor below the pool table, we specified a trellis pattern area rug in natural jute and burnt orange colors. To provide seating for the Living Room, we added a mahogany wood bar height table with matching stools and reused existing leather wing chairs.
