Project Description
project brief
At the heart of our mission at Gustie is to support nonprofits. When we are asked to participate in a nonprofit project or create a collaboration with a client, we are all in! We were asked to design a children’s library in honor of a local school teacher. The library was located at GRS, a reform synagogue located in Greenwich, CT.
design for good
Our design for the Children’s Library first required that a dark, cluttered storage room be emptied out so that we could see the interior and make recommendations.
We chose to paint the walls in a vibrant purple color scheme and add a decorative motif that was inviting and a creative inspiration for the children. The concrete floor was covered in carpet tile and wall base was installed. Both the carpet and wall base were donated by our vendors. To brighten the room to a cozy reading level, we specified and installed stage lighting.
A librarian desk and bookcases were donated and fit nicely. Many books for the children were donated, too, adding to the magic of the project.
